Bokma Oude Genever, introduced around the turn of the century, is distilled from pure grain alcohol and has a smooth, delicate taste. It is a popular short drink, and is used as a base for long drinks and cocktails. ‘Malt wine,’ the basic ingredient of Genever, is distilled from a mixture of wheat, corn, rye, and barley. The production of this malt wine mirrors production of Scotch whisky through the first distillation, which the Scots call ‘low wines’ and the Dutch call ‘malt wine.’ The other essential ingredient is juniper berries. Distillers make the final product in several stages, using herbs, neutral spirits, and different quantities of juniper berries according to closely guarded recipes handed down from father to son.

Bowmore 16 Years Old is a limited edition from a selection of only 39 Oloroso sherry casks. The hand crafting of this exceptional malt started back in 1990: the barley was carefully malted, hand turned and traditionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After fermentation and slow distillation the spirit was laid down to mature in Bowmore’s famous vaults below sea level. This 1990 vintage compliments the bourbon matured 1989 vintage released in 2005 and demonstrates beautifully the influence of different cask types on Bowmore Single malt. The result is a Bowmore light teak in colour; the aromas are big, rich and complex – dark chocolate, raisins and sweet figs are bound together with that distinctive Bowmore smokiness. On the palate it is warm and delicious, full of rich fruit cake flavours with a slight salty spiciness. The finish is long rich and elegant. scottish whisky

The Balvenie Single Barrel Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a 15 year old single malt which is drawn from a single bourbon cask of a single distillation. Each cask forms a limited edition of hand-numbered bottles – there will be a maximum of 350 bottles from any one cask – so each bottle is unique and unrepeatable. Each cask is subtly different, however, The Balvenie Malt Master selects for bottling only those casks that have the essential characteristics of The Balvenie Single Barrel – particularly honey, vanilla and oaky notes. The nose is a fragrant aroma of vanilla honeyed sweetness, hints of heather and dry oaky notes. The taste is rich and complex, suggestive of years of careful ageing, it has a honeyed maltiness with vanilla oak flavours, and hints of spicy peat notes. Award-winning Whisky producer, Isle of Arran Distillers, has released a limited edition bottling of its Single Malt to commemorate the 250th anniversary (1759 – 2009), of the birth of Scotland’s national poet, Robert Burns, which takes place on 25th January 2009. A limited edition bottling of only 6,000 bottles distilled in 1998. Officially endorsed by the World Burns Federation – signatures and crest. The casks (15 ex-sherry hogsheads) for this bottling were hand-selected by the Distillery Manager, James MacTaggart, from the 1998 distillation. Beautifully presented in a rigid presentation box.
