David Stewart, The Balvenie Malt Master has selected only from the finest vintage casks that were laid down during his early time at The Balvenie over thirty years ago. David’s long experience in maturation has enabled him to create this rare and especially fine thirty year old single malt Scotch whisky. By marrying The Balvenie slowly aged in traditional Oak casks and also in Oloroso Sherry Butts, David has created a rich, mellow Scotch whisky with unusual depth and complexity. The traditional Oak – previously used to mature Bourbon – imbues warm honeyed tones, intense floral sweetness and distinct notes of vanilla, whereas The Balvenie matured in Sherry Wood displays a rich depth of colour, a dry oakiness and even greater refinement. The product of a lifetime’s work, ‘Thirty’ has been bottled at natural strength to capture all the signature characteristics of The Balvenie. The Thirteen. 13 Year Old Aged Blended Scotch Whisky. The secret of the rich, rounded taste of the thirteen is in the unique Double Marriage maturation process. At 12 years old, when other producers bottle their aged blends, Whyte & Mackay’s Master Blender brings together the finest malt whiskies, then returns them to sherry casks to marry for another year – a loving union. At 13 years old the second marriage takes place, when the finest grain whiskies are introduced to this blend of malts to create the masterpiece that is the thirteen. Colour: Radiant, golden highlights – shimmering bright. Nose: A firm, rich bouquet. Mellow and full. A slight hint of wood can just be detected. Grant’s Sherry Cask Reserve is a blend of the finest Scotch whisky that finishes its maturation in casks which have previously contained Oloroso sherry. They use only first fill sherry casks, which come straight from Spain; young casks that retain all the goodness and fresh sherry wood notes. They have never been used for anything other than maturing sherry. The sherry casks imbue the whisky with a distinctively warm, rich, fruity taste. Medium dry with rich fruitcake and nuts. The Balvenie Doublewood Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a 12 year old single malt which gains its distinctive character from being matured in two woods. During its period of maturation The Balvenie Doublewood is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill Spanish oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt – the traditional casks, having previously held bourbon, soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour. The nose is Sweet fruit and oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla. Tasting notes: Without water Nose: Sweet, rich fruit aromas – ripe apples and pears. Smoky – burnt wood notes together with a dry spicy edge – liquorice and aniseed.
